1. Should you even hire a ghostblogger?

Some people consider it unethical to put their name on someone else’s writing.


Employers sell the creations and time of their employees as their own.

Car manufacturers outsource many components of the cars they build, and offer it as their own.

Many medications and supplements are manufactured by companies who have no connection to the branding that the final product carries.

The same goes for many of the products you buy off the shelf at the grocery store, the hardware store, the department store,…

The bottom line is this: If you paid for it, you have the right to use it as you choose to. If you choose to put you own name on it, then do so without feeling guilty. Writing is merely the product of someone’s time.

2. Why not simply hire a cheap freelance writer?

Firstly, what you pay for is what you get. Period.

Secondly, cheap writers are cheap for a reason. They often live and work amidst challenging conditions, and they often have to overload themselves just to make ends meet.

This in turn has a domino effect on the quality of their writing, which in turn creates a poor perception by your website or blog’s visitors. This then leads to poor sales and even damage to your brand – and credibility.


3. If you do hire a ghostblogger…

Will it be worth it?

The short answer: Not for everyone.

In order for you to make a profit off your outsourced blog content, a number of factors have to come together – including quality, relevance, conversion (from visitor to client/customer) and lifetime client/customer value.

Quality is determined by your blog writer. Relevance is determined by your choice of topics. Conversion depends partly on the writing and partly on web design. The lifetime value of the client or customer is your domain.

Of course, your business blog also contributes to your brand – which is difficult to calculate off the bat.


4. So – why would you want to work with me?

Good question. So many newbie ghostwriters are trying to pass themselves off as experts…

I don’t. In fact, I don’t pretend to be a good fit for everyone who approaches me. If we are going to work together, it has to work for both of us.

Personally, I have no interest in doing one-off jobs. I build long term relationships. My clients keep coming back – two of them still keep coming back after a decade.


What can you expect from me?

Besides more than a decade of ghostwriting experience across many subjects and topics…

I’m a little older – just over 50. As such, I have had the opportunity to learn about many things in life, including online marketing, SEO, copywriting, business basics, and the many subjects I have written about.

Living in South Africa also means I have a Western frame of reference, which makes it easier for me to grasp some concepts and audiences than say, someone in Asia or central Africa.

In addition to that, I don’t have any small kids running around the house, and I have the privilege of living in a quiet neighborhood. That makes it easier for me to focus than it is for some other freelance writers.

Lastly, since my rates are not rock-bottom, I don’t have to overload myself just to make ends meet.

7. I can only handle so many writing clients…

There are two sides to the proverbial coin:

On the one hand, my brain can only handle so many hours of intense concentration per day. As such, I can only take on so much work. And as such I can only handle so many clients.

(The number of clients at any given time varies depending on their needs – such as the number of articles per month/week, length, depth of the content, etc.)

On the other hand, that means my time is precious to me.

As such, I am careful about who I choose to work with. If you are someone who keeps pushing for lower rates, or if you are a micro-manager, we may not be a good fit for each other.

I do have some time left in my working week, but those hours will be spent writing.

Experience has been a brutal teacher, forcing me to set some boundaries. As a business owner, I am sure you can relate.
